DETROIT — Black Catholics in the Archdiocese of Detroit will gather March 15-16 at Sacred Heart Major Seminary to “break open” several recent documents in an attempt to enliven the worship experience of the black Catholic community.
The first-ever archdiocesan Black Catholic Convocation will examine the 2011 National Black Catholic Survey, 2012 National Black Catholic Congress Plan of Action and integrate them with the Archdiocese of Detroit’s pastoral priorities.
According to a press release, the convocation seeks to “help bring these documents alive for black Catholics in the Archdiocese of Detroit.”
On March 15, Detroit Auxiliary Bishop Donald Hanchon will lead evening prayer to kick off the convocation, followed by an examination of the survey.
The next day, the action plan will be examined in light of priorities such as “Holiness of Life,” “Reaching out to the Next Generation” and “Getting Married and Staying Married,” among others.
A youth track will be offered March 16, and a young adult discussion will be held throughout.
Cost is $15 and includes snacks, breakfast and lunch. Register at www.aod.org/BlackCatholics or by calling (313) 596-7103.
