Catholic League volleyball championships get underway (Mercy vs. Ladywood photo gallery)







Detroit -- Catholic High School League volleyball championships will begin Thursday, Oct. 21, at Madonna University in Livonia. The championships will be decided as the playoffs conclude at Madonna on Monday, Oct. 25.

Twelve schools will take part. They include Notre Dame Prep, Mercy, Marian, Fr. Gabriel Richard, Divine Child and Ladywood from the A-B Division; and Shrine, Cabrini, Bishop Foley, Our Lady of the Lakes, Cardinal Mooney and Academy of the Sacred Heart from the C-D Division.

Notre Dame Prep and Mercy receive a first-round bye in the A-B Division, with Notre Dame Prep playing the winner of the Marian vs. Divine Child matchup and Mercy playing the winner of the Fr. Gabriel Richard vs. Ladywood matchup.

In the C-D Division, Shrine and Cabrini earned the bye, with Shrine taking on the Bishop Foley vs. Cardinal Mooney winner and Cabrini battling the Our Lady of the Lakes vs. Sacred Heart winner.
