Conference to focus on sainthood causes

Detroit — Four men with active causes for sainthood will be the primary focus of the Holy Trnity Apostolate’s Mysterium Fidei conference, Saturday, March 5, at SS. Cyril & Methodius (Slovak) Parish, Sterling Heights.

Bishop Alexander Sample of Marquette will speak on “Heroic Virtue in the Life and Ministry of the Servant of God Frederic Baraga,” telling the story of the famous “snowshoe priest” who served for a while in the (then) Diocese of Detroit and went on to become the Marquette Diocese’s first bishop.

And he will tell where Bishop Baraga’s cause currently stands.

Msgr. Robert J. Sarno, from the Vatican’s Congregation for Saints will speak about the entire process of beatification and canonization.

Testimony regarding three other sainthood causes — and where those causes currently stand — will also be given by:

• Fr. Andrew Apostoli, CFR, for the cause of Archbishop Fulton J. Sheen.

• Fr. Robert T. McDermott for the cause of Jesuit Fr. John Hardon.

• Bro. Richard Merling, OFM Cap. for the cause of the Ven. Solanus Casey.

Attendees will also hear from Sr. Maria Inviolata, SMDG, about her journey into the Church.

Barbara Middleton, president of Holy Trinity Apostolate, has managed to borrow stoles that belonged to all four candidates for sainthood, as well as from another, Pope John Paul II.
