The Archdiocese of Detroit Catholic Men’s Conference is Saturday, April 21, in Auburn Hills. Cost is $40; $25 for students. Register online or download the mail-in registration form at http://mensconference.wordpress.com/registration.

Auxiliary Bishop Michael Byrnes will celebrate Mass to begin the 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. event.

Abramowicz’s career with the New Orleans Saints began in 1967, and he was the National Football League’s leading receiver in 1969. Besides being a sought-after speaker at Catholic men’s conferences around the country, he wrote “Spiritual Workout of a Former Saint,” published in 2004 by Our Sunday Visitor.

Other members of the Crossing the Goal ministry team are Catholic evangelist and broadcaster Peter Herbeck, campus ministry leader Curtis Martin and broadcaster Brian Patrick.

All four are great speakers, who bring a message of evangelization, transformation and conversion, said Erik Coules, a regional evangelization coordinator for the archdiocese.

Coules said about 2,000 men are expected to attend the conference, but up to 3,500 could be accommodated.

And he said more men should consider attending: “If he’s never had the experience of being with a number of men who are all focused on Christ, who are all trying to live their faith, he will find out that you need the connectedness.”

“All too often, our faith has been something we practice alone, but these conferences give us the ardor and the strength we need to keep going,” Coules said.

While there is no deadline for registration, he recommended registering early to guarantee getting a lunch.
