Bro. Joseph Taylor, who professed first vows as a Capuchin friar July 19, was baptized and grew up at St. Charles Borromeo Church in Detroit. Bro. Bro. Joseph Taylor, OFM Cap., a member of St. Charles Borromeo Parish in Detroit, made his vows at St. Lawrence Seminary in Mount Calvary, Wis. He and three others will join 15 other friars at the Capuchin Province of St. Joseph’s Chicago formation house to pursue studies in preparation for graduate studies at the Catholic Theological Union.
Bro. Taylor was joined by family and friends during the occasion. “Thank you to all of those who supported me with prayers and words of inspiration in the early stages of formation,” he said in a statement. “I ask that you continue to pray that we may be immersed with the genuine love of Christ and we reflect that light of love on others for years to come.”
Having started his discernment with the Capuchins as a teenager, Bro. Taylor decided to postpone his postulancy, joining the order 11 years later. Before then, he attended Wayne State University and has worked for the Detroit Public Schools and the Solanus Center in Detroit.
Archbishop to celebrate Fr. Solanus Mass
Archbishop Allen H. Vigneron will be the celebrant for a 1:30 p.m. Mass on Sunday, July 27, celebrating the 57th anniversary of the death of Venerable Solanus Casey in 1957.
The Mass, which takes place within the context of a novena to pray for the beatification of Fr. Solanus, will be at St. Bonaventure Monastery Chapel, 1780 Mt. Elliott, Detroit.
Archbishop Vigneron has said previously the cause for Fr. Solanus’ beatification is “looking very good,” telling The Michigan Catholic in an interview earlier this year he hopes it could take place within the next five years.
