After a celebration and special mention during a Mass at St. Catherine Chapel on the Motherhouse campus, Sr. Selcke expressed deep gratitude for her life in religious ministry.
“I wish to thank God alone for my religious vocation, which is a special gift from Him,” she said. “Without His divine grace and assistance, I would have lacked the courage and commitment to become a Dominican Sister. Blessed be God in all His gifts.”
Sr. Selcke, who resides at the Dominican Life Center in Adrian, taught for several years in schools of the Archdiocese of Detroit, most recently at St. Gabriel, Detroit, from 1951-59. Sr. Selcke also taught at St. Lawrence, St. Augustine and St. Edward in Detroit, as well as St. Alphonsus, Dearborn, and St. Joseph, Maybee, during her long and distinguished teaching ministry.
After serving as an elementary school teacher in Detroit and Chicago for 40 years, Sr. Selcke went on to serve in other ministries in Illinois and Florida.
