Father Gerald Nitoski passed on from this life on July 26, 2010 at the age of 83.

Father Nitoski was born on July 31, 1926 in Detroit and was ordained a priest for the Archdiocese of Detroit on June 2, 1951. He served as associate pastor at St. Matthew, Detroit; Cathedral of the Blessed Sacrament, Detroit; St. Thomas, Ann Arbor; and Our Lady of Sorrows, Farmington. He served as pastor at St. Joseph, South Lyon and Our Lady of the Rosary, Detroit. In addition, Father Nitoski served as chaplain at Providence Hospital, Southfield.

He will be waked at the A.J. Desmond & Sons Funeral Home, 2600 Crooks Road, Troy (248-362-2500). Visitation hours will be on Thursday, July 29, from 2 to 8 p.m., with a Scripture service at 7 p.m.

Father Nitoski will lie in state on Friday, July 30 at St. Benedict Parish, Highland Park, from 10 a.m. until the celebration of his funeral Mass at 11 a.m. Burial will take place at Mount Olivet Cemetery.

Father Nitoski was predeceased by his parents, Stanley and Margaret Nitoski, and one brother, Norman. He is survived by several cousins. Condolences may be sent in care of St. Benedict Parish, 60 Church Street, Highland Park, MI 48203.
