Fr. Kerner ‘OK,’ asks for prayers for victim following fatal traffic collision

DEARBORN HEIGHTS -- St. Kateri Tekakwitha pastor, Fr. Terrance Kerner, is reporting he is “OK” following a traffic collision Tuesday night which resulted in the death of a motorist.

Fr. Kerner was travelling east in the left-turn lane on Van Born Road, waiting to turn north onto Beech Daly Road, when he was struck by a motorcyclist travelling westbound in the left-turn lane of Van Born.

The motorcyclist, identified by Dearborn Heights police as Wayne Minster, 67, of Romulus, was traveling straight in the left-turn lane, causing the collision, according to Dearborn Heights Police Chief Lee Gavin.

“It appears the motorcyclist was at fault for driving in the left-turn lane,” Chief Gavin said.
Gavin reported the victim, who wasn’t wearing a helmet, died while being transported to the hospital. Fr. Kerner reported his knees were a little sore but had no serious injuries. His car was totaled.

Fr. Kerner asks the archdiocesan community to keep the victim, his family and the first responders in their intentions and pray for all involved in the accident.
