Society extends energy assistance
DETROIT — The Society of St. Vincent de Paul, which for years has helped the underprivileged, seniors and unemployed with assistance in affording energy costs, is now extending its assistance to eligible residents to five counties within the Diocese of Lansing – Washtenaw, Ingham, Eaton, Clinton and Livingston counties. Canton church hosts life vigil
DETROIT — Archbishop Allen Vigneron will lead a prayer vigil to honor the sanctity of developing human life at 7 p.m., Nov. 27, at St. John Neumann Church, 44800 Warren in Canton. The ceremony will include liturgy of the hours, exposition of the Blessed Sacrament, and Benediction. Focus: HOPE warehouse moves
DETROIT — The central warehouse for Focus: HOPE has moved as of Nov. 15 to 1200 Oakman Boulevard in Detroit, just west of the John C. Lodge Freeway. Previously, the warehouse had been on East Davison. The warehouse distributes food items to the needy. As the holidays approach, Focus: HOPE is looking for assistance in feeding the hungry. Anyone is welcome to help by packing food boxes, delivering food to homebound seniors, donating non-perishable food items or making monetary contributions. Sr. Kostielney officially retires from MCC
DETROIT — Sr. Monica Kostielney, RSM, on Nov. 15, officially stepped down as president of the Michigan Catholic Conference after 16 years as its president and 36 years overall. It was announced during the Summer that Sr. Kostielney would step down. On Sept. 8, Paul A. Long, the MCC’s vice president for public policy, was named her successor. At an event to celebrate her career at the conference, Sr. Kostielney said she “truly found every day exciting and satisfying.”
Seminary Christmas concert is Dec. 3
DETROIT — Sacred Heart Major Seminary will present its annual Christmas concert, “Unto Us a Child is Born,” Friday, Dec. 3, at 7 p.m. The concert will feature the Sacred Heart Choir, Schola and Concert Chorale, with special guest, the Michigan Sinfonietta. It will be performed in the Norman Gothic setting of the seminary’s main chapel. Refreshments will follow the concert. Iconographer instructs in Rockwood

IHMs to host ‘Messiah’ concert
DETROIT — On December 12, IHM Motherhouse Chapel will host the holiday classic “Messiah” at 3 p.m. Directed by John Tyner, the production will include performances from Monroe County singers and musicians. Cost to attend is $10 for adults and $7 for senior citizens and students. Tickets can be purchased at the Motherhouse, 610 W. Elm Ave in Monroe.
