— Nearly 1,000 people attended Mass on June 29 at historic St. Joseph Church near Detroit’s Eastern Market as the latest “Mass mob” drew throngs of Catholics to the city. The third official gathering of the movement, organized through social media, filled the church built in 1873 for German immigrants to overflowing, and donations were also up, church officials said. It was the largest “Mass mob” to date, more than doubling a turnout of about 400 at St. Charles Borromeo Church in early May. The next gathering is slated for 10 a.m. July 13 at Sweetest Heart of Mary Church, where organizers hope for an even bigger turnout to fill the 1,800-capacity church.
