Holy Door opens to the public



DETROIT — The Holy Door at the Cathedral of the Most Blessed Sacrament will officially open to the public during a special Mass at 11 a.m. Dec. 13, with Archbishop Allen H. Vigneron presiding. After the opening Mass, individuals are invited to take a pilgrimage and pass through the Holy Door and receive a plenary indulgence from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on the first Friday of each month, and from 1-3 p.m. every Sunday. CCSEM hosts seminar on addiction



ROYAL OAK — Catholic Charities of Southeast Michigan will host a workshop for loved ones of those with substance abuse problems Dec. 18. The free 9-11 a.m. event will include discussion on the root causes of addiction and the differences between “supporting” and “enabling” a loved one who is addicted. Local author tells story of faith



FARMINGTON — A local author and youth minister will sign copies of her new book, “Hold Onto Your Halo! True Stories of Answered Prayer, Reflections and Connected Dots Where This Catholic Found God,” after Masses Dec. 12-13 at Our Lady of Sorrows Parish in Farmington. Marilyn Trumper-Samra, coordinator of youth and young adult ministries at the parish, recently published her book, which contains stories and anecdotes of her 25 years in youth ministry and a forward written by Detroit Auxiliary Bishop Michael J. Byrnes. Proceeds from the $10 book will be donated to charity.

Collection to aid retired religious



DETROIT — Many parishes in the Archdiocese of Detroit will take up a special collection Dec. 12-13 for retired men and women religious. The annual collection to support the Retirement Fund for Religious helps address shortfalls in the retirement funds of men’s and women’s religious congregations nationwide, including several in Metro Detroit. Series to explain Mass in ‘slow motion’



LIVONIA — Michigan Catholic columnist and apologist Gary Michuta will give a presentation Dec. 16 explaining the significance of the sacrifice of the Mass during a special Advent event. “The Sacrifice” is part of a series at St. Michael the Archangel Parish in Livonia called “The Mass in S-L-O-W M-O-T-I-O-N,” designed to allow attendees to experience and learn about different parts of the liturgy. Michuta will give a presentation after Eucharistic adoration at 7 p.m. St. Michael the Archangel is at 11441 Hubbard St., Livonia.
