Msgr. Robert Elmer Schneider died Oct. 10 after a long bout with cancer.
The son of Elmer and Cecilia (Stumph) Schneider, he was born May 12, 1931, in Detroit and attended St. David Elementary School and Sacred Heart Seminary High School. He earned degrees from Sacred Heart Seminary in Detroit, St. Charles Borromeo Seminary in Columbus, Ohio, and completed theological studies at Mount St. Mary’s of the West Seminary in Cincinnati. He was ordained May 25, 1957, in Columbus, Ohio, where he served for many years.
Msgr. Schneider served in many parishes in the Diocese of Columbus for more than 45 years as pastor, associate pastor and school teacher. Msgr. Schneider was named a Prelate of Honor (Monsignor) by His Holiness Pope John Paul II in 1995.
A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated for Msgr. Schneider on Oct. 15 at Christ the King Church in Columbus. Burial was to be in St. Joseph Cemetery in Lockbourne, Ohio.
