Sr. Rachel Lambert, IHM, died at her home in the IHM Health Care Center on June 6.
She was 72 and has been a member of Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary for 34 years.
Sr. Lambert was one of five children, two boys and three girls, of Albert and Marie (Bibeault) Lambert. She was born July 1, 1939, and given the name Pauline Rachel. She attended St. Jeanne d’Arc Elementary School and St. Joseph High School in Lowell, Mass.
After several years as a Sister of Charity of Ottawa, Canada, she became a member of the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary in Monroe in 1978.
Sr. Lambert earned a bachelor’s degree from River College, Nashua, N.H., and a master’s degree from Northern University, Boston. She ministered for three years at Frenchtown Senior Citizen Center, Monroe, as developer/program developer, and for eight years at the Area Agency on Aging in Southfield, Mich., as services coordinator and data manager/supervisor.
In 1993 Sister Rachel returned to Monroe and ministered at the IHM Motherhouse as the business office manager and Monroe Campus administrator for six years. After two years as administrator of the City of Rockwood, Mich., she continued her ministry in Florida for 10 years.
Sr. Lambert returned to the IHM Motherhouse in 2012 and entered the Health Care Center, where she resided until her death.
She was under the care of Mercy Memorial Hospice of Monroe.
She is survived by her sisters, Anne Marie and Prescille Shephard, her brothers, Andre and Raymond, and nieces and nephews.
Her funeral Mass was to be Wednesday, June 13, at the IHM Motherhouse Chapel.
