Sr. Ann Mary McCarthy, OP

Sr. Ann Mary McCarthy, OP, of the Dominican Sisters of Hope, Ossining, N.Y., died at The Wartburg, Mt. Vernon, N.Y., on Nov. 30. She was 90.

The daughter of the late John Thomas and Anna Walsh McCarthy, she was born Sept. 9, 1922, in the Bronx, N.Y.

Sr. Ann Mary entered the novitiate of the Dominican Sisters of the Sick Poor on Sept. 8, 1947, made her First Profession March 6, 1949, and Final Profession March 5, 1952. Sr. Ann Mary earned her B.A. in nursing from St. John’s University and her M.A. in PHN from New York University.

Sr. Ann Mary did nursing with the Dominican Sisters of the Sick Poor in Detroit (1949-50 and 1953-55), where she was also student nurse supervisor (1956-57).

She also spent several years in nursing, teaching, pastoral care and supervisory roles in Ossining, N.Y.; New York City; Boston; Columbus and Steubenville, Ohio; Miami, Fla.; Tulsa, Okla.; and at the Catholic University of Puerto Rico.

She moved to the Newburgh Center of Hope in Newburgh, N.Y.; in 2006 and then to The Wartburg.

Sr. Ann Mary is survived by cousins.

Funeral services were held at the Ossining Center of Hope, 299 North Highland Avenue, in Ossining, NY. Burial is in the Dominican Sisters’ Cemetery in Ossining.
