Sister of Charity of Cincinnati Sr. Anne Bockhorst (formerly Sr. John Helen) died July 1at the age of 84 at Mother Margaret Hall, the nursing facility of the Sisters of Charity of Cincinnati. She was a Sister of Charity for 66 years.
She was born Anne Elizabeth Bockhorst on Jan.26, 1927, in Chicago, the daughter of John Joseph and Helen M. (Heyl) Bockhorst.
Sr. Bockhorst earned the Bachelor of Science degree in education (1958) from the College of Mount St. Joseph in Cincinnat. She also was awarded the master’s in education (1971) from Xavier University, Cincinnati and the Master of Arts in religion (1985) from the Athenaeum of Ohio, Cincinnati.
After entering the Congregation in 1944, Sr. Bockhorst ministered in education. For the next 26 years, she taught at schools in Michigan and Ohio. In Michigan, she served at Shrine of the Little Flower in Royal Oak (1946–47); St. Mary in Jackson (1947–52) and St. Luke in Detroit (1959–63). Later in her ministry, Sr. Bockhorst served at College of Mount St. Joseph as a computer programmer, and in parishes in Ohio as a pastoral minister.
Her funeral was July 8 at the Sisters of Charity of Cincinnati Motherhouse.
