Dominican Sister of Peace Benedicta Beckes, OP, died Nov. 26 at Lourdes Nursing Home in Waterford Township.

She was born Feb. 26, 1912 in Allouez to Andrew and Elizabeth (Michalak) Beckes. In 1929 she entered the novitiate of the former Dominican Sisters of St. Rose of Lima in Oxford, and in 1935 she made her final profession of vows.

Sr. Beckes earned a Bachelor of Science degree from Siena Heights College (University), Adrian, in home economics. She later earned certificates in teaching and nursing home administration.

She ministered in education at SS Cyril & Methodius, Detroit; St. Joseph, Owosso; SS Andrew & Benedict, Detroit; Sacred Heart, Flint; and Holy Trinity, Ironwood; and at one Pennsylvania parish.

Sr. Beckes then served as administrator of Lourdes Nursing Home, and as a driver/volunteer at the Oxford Motherhouse.

She is survived by many nieces and nephews.

A funeral Mass was celebrated Nov.30 in the Oxford Motherhouse chapel.
