Sr. Bernadette Mary Syron, OP

Sr. Bernadette Mary Syron, OP, formerly Bernadette Therese Syron, died Aug. 11 at the Dominican Life Center in Adrian. She was 88 and in the 68th year of her religious profession in the Adrian Dominican Congregation. Sr. Syron was born in Detroit to Hugh and Elizabeth (Phillips) Syron. She graduated from Visitation High School in Detroit and received degrees from Siena Heights College (University) in Adrian and De Paul University in Chicago. Sr. Syron spent 38 years in elementary education in Michigan, Illinois and Ohio. She was principal at St. Joseph Academy in Adrian from 1958-63, and taught at St. Lawrence, Utica (1965-66); St. Mary, St. Clair (1966-67); St. Agatha, Detroit (1970-71); Thomas Beahan Jr. High School, Detroit (1971-78); and St. Scholastica, Detroit (1987-96). Sr. Syron is survived by two sisters: Agnes Anderson of Naperville, Ill., and Elizabeth Church of Farmington, and nieces and nephews. A Funeral Mass was offered in St. Catherine Chapel on Aug. 15. Rite of Committal was to be in the Congregation cemetery.
