Sr. Carol Favor, IHM

Sr1Sr. Carol Favor, IHM, died Oct. 22, at her home in Detroit. She was 80.

Carol Joan was born to Elmer and Elsie (Boes) Favor on March 3, 1934, in Detroit. Her mother died when she was young, and the family was raised by her father and step-mother, Imelda (Franzen). Sr. Favor attended Holy Redeemer grade school and high school in Detroit. She entered the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary of Monroe in 1952 and received the religious name of Sr. Laurietta.

She earned a bachelor’s degree from Marygrove College and a master’s in education from Wayne State University. She taught at St. Timothy, Trenton; St. Bede, Southfield; and St. Mary, Monroe. She retired from teaching after more than 10 years at Holy Redeemer.

In retirement, she volunteered, worked as a substitute teacher and served on the board of the Pablo Davis Elder Living Center. She was recognized for her volunteer work at the Southwest Detroit Business Association’s Community Policing program in Detroit.

Sr. Favor is survived by sisters Madonna McGahan, Margaret Pavlik, Gale Motylinski, Laurie Favor and Dianne LaVoy; and by brothers David, James, Leonard and Mark Favor; and many nieces and nephews.

Mass of Christian Burial was Oct. 30 at the IHM Motherhouse. Burial is in St. Mary Cemetery on the Motherhouse Campus.
