Sr. Caroline Marie Goik, CSSF, of Bay City, 97, religious 79 years, entered eternal life May 21 at St. Joseph Care Center Convent, Livonia.Sr. Goik

Caroline Goik was born Nov. 13, 1917. Both her parents were widowers. Her father, John, had a daughter, Helen, and a son Edmund. Her mother, Martha (Wrobel), had one daughter, Louise. Together, they had eight more daughters: Genevieve, Dorothy, Theresa, Elizabeth, Caroline, Bernice, Martha and Rita.

Educated, baptized and confirmed at St. Stanislaus Kostka Church, Bay City, Sr. Goik enrolled in the Felician Academy on St. Aubin and Canfield in Detroit in 1931, and was accepted into the Felician Congregation on June 26, 1935. In 1936 she received the name Huberta, later changed to Caroline Marie. First profession of vows was in 1937; perpetual vows in 1943.

Sr. Goik earned degrees from the University of Detroit and Wayne State University before teaching for 56 years, including at: St. Stanislaus, St. Andrew and Felician Academy in Detroit; St. Helen, Our Lady of Mt. Carmel and Gabriel Richard Catholic Central in Wyandotte; St. Stanislaus, Hilliards; St. Joseph, Manistee; Holy Rosary, Saginaw; All Saints, Bay City; St. Florian, Hamtramck; Ladywood High School, Livonia; and St. Adalbert, Berea, Ohio.

Gifted in music, Sr. Goik produced many musicals and choral productions and was also an organist. Sr. Goik’s compositions included a Mass in Honor of Blessed Mary Angela, foundress of the Felician Sisters.

In 1991, she was appointed to St. Francis Home in Saginaw in pastoral work and then at St. Joseph Care Center, Livonia.

Sr. Goik is survived by a sister, Bernice Daoust. Mass of Christian burial was May 27 in the chapel of the Felician Sisters Central Convent in Livonia. Burial is in Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, Southfield.
