Sr. Clare Gleeson, formerly known as Sr. Clare Ambrose Gleeson, died at the Dominican Life Center in Adrian. She was 96 and in the 78th year of her religious profession in the Adrian Dominican Congregation.
Sr. Gleeson was born in Chicago to Maurice and Ellen (Frain) Gleeson. Sister graduated from Mercy High School in Chicago and received a Bachelor of Arts degree in English from Siena Heights College (University) in Adrian, a Master of Arts degree in Latin from DePaul University in Chicago, and a Master of Teaching degree in Spanish from Americas University in Puebla, Mexico.
Sister spent 48 years ministering in education in St. Joseph and Owosso; West Palm Beach and Boca Raton, Fla., and Rockford, Wilmette, Chicago and Elgin, Ill. In Michigan, she taught at St. Joseph School, St. Joseph (1935-40); and St. Paul School, Owosso (1948-49). When she became a resident of the Dominican Life Center in Adrian in 1996, she continued her art ministry and graced the surroundings with her paintings.
