Sr. Clare O’Connor, formerly known as Sr. Marie Terrance O’Connor, died Feb. 25 at Bixby Hospital in Adrian. She was 85 and in the 67th year of her religious profession in the Adrian Dominican Congregation.

Sr. Clare was born in Detroit to Maurice and Clara (Butler) O’Connor. Sister graduated from St. Ambrose High School in Grosse Pointe Park and received a Bachelor of Science degree in mathematics and a Master of Education degree from Siena Heights College (University) in Adrian.

Sister spent 30 years ministering in education in Michigan and Illinois, including at St. Mary School, New Baltimore (1947-49); and St. Jude Parish, Detroit (1973-77). She was assistant administrator of the Maria Health Care Center in Adrian for five years and chapter prioress of the Motherhouse Chapter for three years. Sister was a pastoral minister for five years at St. Pius X Parish in Flint. She was alsochaplain for two years at Bon Secours Nursing Care Center in Saint Clair Shores. Sister became a resident of the Dominican Life Center in Adrian in 2006.

Sr. Clare is survived by a cousin, Sr. Suzanne Schreiber, an Adrian Dominican Sister, and other loving cousins. She was preceded in death by a sister, Sr. Mauritia O’Connor, and a cousin, Sr. Robert Joseph Bailey, both Adrian Dominican Sisters.
