Sr. Corita Lear, IHM

Sr. Corita Lear, IHM, 92, died Jan. 23, at the IHM Motherhouse in Monroe.

Sr. Lear was born March 17, 1923, one of six children, four boys and two girls, of Joseph and Catherine (Tuschinger) Lear in Ford City, Pa., and given the name Mildred. She graduated from St. Mary Academy, Monroe, and entered the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary, in 1939.

Sr. Lear earned degrees from Marygrove College and Wayne State University. She ministered as a teacher for 35 years in Michigan at St. Mary, Marshall; St. Patrick, Carleton; Holy Redeemer, All Saints, St. Catherine, St. Cecilia and St. Rose, Detroit; St. Joseph, Monroe; and St. Charles, Coldwater. She also taught in several schools in Ohio.

In 1977, Sr. Lear began pastoral ministry of the sick and elderly, serving in that ministry in Ohio for 10 years.

Sr. Lear is survived by nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her brothers, Raymond, Jerome, Armand and Wilbert, and sister, Winifred Yeager. Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated Jan. 26 at the IHM Motherhouse.
