Sr. Dolores Keller, CSJ

Sr. Dolores Keller, CSJ, died Oct. 3 in Kalamazoo. Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated Oct. 10 followed by interment in Gate of Heaven Cemetery at Nazareth, Mich.

Dolores Keller was born in Wyandotte on July 1, 1927, the daughter of Louis C. Keller and Stella (Cottrell) Keller. She was a member of St. James Parish, Ferndale, at the time of her entrance into the Congregation of the Sisters of St. Joseph on July 2, 1943. She received the name Sr. Marie Dolores on Jan. 3, 1944, later returning to her baptismal name. She pronounced first vows on Jan. 3, 1946, and final vows Jan. 3, 1949.

Sr. Keller earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in English from Nazareth College and a Master of Arts degree in English from the University of Dayton. Sr. Dolores taught in several schools of the Congregation including St. Margaret Mary, Detroit; St. Elizabeth, Wyandotte; St. Patrick, Portland; and St. Francis Home for Boys, Detroit. She was then appointed principal at Madonna School in Detroit. In 1972, Sr. Keller moved to Florida. She was truly an advocate for the poor and elderly, and it was her great privilege to march in Selma in 1954 — an experience that forever changed her life.

Sr. Keller is survived by a brother and sister-in-law and many nieces and nephews.
