Sr. Helen Walsh, OP, formerly Sr. Rose Michaeleen Walsh, died May 10 at the Dominican Life Center in Adrian. She was 96 and in her 72nd year in the Adrian Dominican Congregation.Born in Chicago to William and Rosemary (O’Sullivan) Walsh, she earned degrees from the University of Michigan, Loyola University and Wayne State University.
Sr. Walsh ministered in elementary and secondary education and other ministries in Michigan, Ohio, Illinois, California and Florida. In Michigan, she taught at St. Paul, Grosse Pointe Farms (1951-52); St. Dominic (1952-58, including as principal); Dominican High School (1961); and St. Ambrose, all in Detroit (1967-68). Sr. Walsh also ministered in social work and pastoral work in Toledo, and was chaplain and teacher of women prisoners for four years in Detroit and Warren. She was activities director for three years at the Dominican Life Center in Adrian.
Rite of Committal (burial) was May 12 in the Congregation Cemetery. A memorial Mass will take place at a later date.
