Sr. Helen Williams, IHM, 84, died July 30 at Mercy Memorial Hospital. She had been a resident of the IHM Motherhouse since 2007.

Helen was born in Flint on Nov. 11, 1931, to Edward and Mary (Wentworth) Williams. She entered the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary in Monroe in 1949, receiving the religious name, Sr. Marie Vianney.

Sr. Williams earned a degree from Marygrove College and taught at St. Charles, Newport; St. Mary of Redford, Detroit; and St. Anne, Warren. After serving in New Mexico, she returned to Michigan in 1967 and continued teaching at Detroit’s Most Holy Trinity and St. Patrick schools and as principal of St. Francis de Sales School. She later served in pastoral ministry, religious education and administration at St. Joseph, Erie; St. Lawrence, Utica; St. Kevin, Inkster; Our Lady of Victory, Northville; Our Lady Queen of All Saints, Fraser; St. Germaine, St. Clair Shores; St. Catherine, Algonac; and St. Angela, Roseville.

Sr. Williams was preceded in death by sisters, Rose Campbell and Mary Glesenkamp. She is survived by a niece and nephews, many friends and her sisters in community.

Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated Aug. 2 at the IHM Motherhouse. Burial was to be in St. Mary Cemetery.
