Sr. McAnoySr. McAnoy, born in Akron, Ohio, on Oct. 3, 1926, was the eldest of five children born to Thomas and Anne (Conlon) McAnoy, immigrants from Scotland and England, respectively. She entered the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary of Monroe after high school. Sr. McAnoy earned degrees from Marygrove College and the Catholic University of America in Washington, D.C.
As a teacher and administrator, she ministered at SS. Peter and Paul, Ionia; St. Mary, Mt. Morris; St. Matthew, Detroit; St. John, Monroe; Our Lady Star of the Sea, Grosse Pointe; and Mitchell House (Boysville), Detroit, as well as in Illinois. For many years, she operated bingo fundraisers, as well as teaching and administration duties, at St. Martin de Porres High School and Holy Rosary Parish, Detroit.
In 1986, Sr. McAnoy began a 20-year ministry at Marygrove College, first as a teacher/professor of developmental mathematics and then as co-director of mission effectiveness. She served the congregation as coordinator of social action (justice), as secretary of the Northeast Province and as assistant provincial.
According to her wishes, a green burial has already taken place in St. Mary Cemetery. A memorial Mass was celebrated May 30 in the Motherhouse Chapel.
