Sr. Joyce Anderson, CSJ

Sr. Joyce Anderson, CSJ, entered eternal life April 9 at the age of 80. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated April 14 in Holy Family Chapel in Nazareth, Mich.

Joyce Anderson was born in Battle Creek on Dec. 11, 1934, the daughter of Orrin and Jean (Kwiatkoski) Anderson. At the time of her entrance into the Congregation of the Sisters of St. Joseph of Nazareth on Sept. 1, 1956, she was a member of St. Philip Parish in Battle Creek. She received the name Sister Agnes Joseph at her reception on July 2, 1957, but later returned her baptismal name. She pronounced final vows July 2, 1962.

Sr. Anderson spent her active ministry in dietary and food service. She was an excellent cook and put her culinary skills to good use at St. Veronica Convent, East Detroit; Nazareth Convent, and Villa St. Anthony in Comstock. In 1971, she transitioned to Borgess Hospital in Kalamazoo, where she spent the next 36 years in food service. Sr. Anderson retired in 2007.
