Sr. Judith Ann Lieder, OP

Sr. Judith Ann Lieder, OP, formerly Sr. Augusta Lieder, died Aug. 17 at St. John Providence Hospital in Detroit. She was 82 and in the 64th year of her religious profession: 22 years in the Franciscan Congregation in Sylvania, Ohio, and in her 41st year in the Adrian Dominican Congregation.

Sr. Lieder was born in Detroit to Leonard and Clara (Polakowski) Lieder. She received degrees from Mary Manse College in Toledo and the University of Detroit (Detroit Mercy).

Sr. Lieder spent 30 years in education in Michigan, Ohio and Minnesota. In Michigan, she taught at St. Stanislaus Kostka, Wyandotte (1961-67); Gabriel Richard High School, Riverview (1967-81); and served as pastoral associate at Queen of All Saints, Fraser (1987-94); and St. Jude, Detroit (1994-2002). She also served as associate vocations director at Sacred Heart Seminary in Detroit from 1982-87.

A funeral Mass was offered in St. Catherine Chapel on Aug. 21. Rite of Committal was to be in the Congregation cemetery.
