Sr. Leona Bruck, formerly known as Sr. John Aloysius Bruck, died Aug. 19 at the Dominican Life Center in Adrian. She was 75 and in the 58th year of her religious profession in the Adrian Dominican Congregation.
Sr. Bruck was born in Monroe to Aloysius and Eleanor (Wess) Bruck. She graduated from St. Joseph Academy in Adrian, and received a bachelor of philosophy degree in English and a master of education degree in administration, both from Siena Heights College (University) in Adrian.
She spent 43 years ministering in elementary education in Michigan, Illinois and Iowa. She was a teacher for five years at schools in the Upper Peninsula, and Sr. Bruck also was a parish minister at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Parish in Temperance (2007-13). She became a resident of the Dominican Life Center in 2014.
She is survived by a brother, John Bruck, and three sisters, Betty Riddle, Mary Donnelly and Jane Thoma, all of Monroe; and a cousin, Sr. Loretta May, also an Adrian Dominican.
Her funeral Mass was Aug. 23 in St. Catherine Chapel. Burial is to be in the congregation cemetery. Memorials to Adrian Dominican Sisters, 1257 East Siena Heights Drive, Adrian, Michigan, 49221.
