Sr. Lynn Welsh, OP

Sr. Lynn Welsh, OP, died July 18 in Fort Myers, Fla. Her religious name was Sr. Tomaso. She was a Dominican Sister for 61 years.

Sr. Welsh was born Jan. 5, 1936, in Chicago, one of five children of Thomas J. Welsh II and Marion (Donnelly) Welsh. She earned degrees from Edgewood College in Madison, Wis., Columbia University in New York and Loras College in Dubuque, Iowa. Sr. Welsh made her first religious profession as a Sinsinawa Dominican on Aug. 5, 1955, and her final profession Aug. 5, 1958.

She taught for 15 years and served as principal for 22 years, ministering in Michigan, Minnesota, Illinois, Iowa, New York, Wisconsin, Idaho and Florida. In the Archdiocese of Detroit, she ministered as director of religious education at St. Isidore Parish, Mt. Clemens, 1987-88. She also served in religious education, family care, and in a reading program. She served the Sinsinawa Dominican Congregation as provincial councilor for the Eastern Province for four years and as a member of the Development Office staff for one year, and did parish and community volunteer work for nine years.

The funeral Mass was held at the Dominican motherhouse in Sinsinawa on July 31, followed by burial in the Motherhouse Cemetery.
