Sr. HennigSr. Marciana Hennig, CSJ, died Dec. 4 at the age of 102.
Angeline Hennig was born in Detroit on Oct. 7, 1914, the daughter of Albert and Anastasia (Ziemann) Hennig. She entered the Congregation of the Sisters of St. Joseph of Nazareth on Aug. 15, 1929, pronouncing first vows Aug. 24, 1932, and final vows Jan. 7, 1936.
Sr. Hennig earned a degree from Nazareth College and for ministered for 35 years in education, including at St. Philip Neri, Detroit; St. Michael, Pontiac; and St. Patrick, Portland. She also served as bookkeeper at St. Augustine School, Kalamazoo. In 1972 she was appointed the fourth Nazareth postmaster, a position that she held for the next 20 years, during which time she also served as the chaplain for the Michigan postmaster’s chapter. In 1975 she edited the book, Serving You, a brief history of Michigan post offices. Sister was instrumental in obtaining a “first day issuance” Christmas stamp, issued from the Nazareth post office in 1985.
Mass of Christian burial was to be Dec. 9 at Holy Family Chapel in Nazareth.
