Sr. Margaret Mary of the Sacred Heart Otrompke, OCD

Sr. Margaret Mary of the Sacred Heart, OCD, (Cecilia Helen Otrompke), 87, died May 26 at Beaumont Hospital in Dearborn.

She was born Nov. 28, 1928, in Detroit to Frank Otrompke and Rose Dresden. She was baptized and confirmed in Most Holy Name of Jesus Church and entered the Sisters of Mary Reparatrix on Nov. 1, 1952, and made profession on May 29, 1955. She served with the Reparatrix Sisters in Detroit from 1952-69, and in Cincinnati from 1969-75.

In May 1975, she transferred to the Discalced Carmelite Nuns in Detroit as an extern sister, making her new profession on May 28, 1978. For the next 25 years, she and Sr. Michael together were the public face of the cloistered Carmelite nuns, in Detroit and later in Clinton Township, welcoming visitors to the monastery, encouraging and consoling them, and assuring them of the prayers of the sisters.

Sr. Margaret Mary is survived by a sister, Clare (Mrs. Dino) Fontana.

Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated May 31 at the monastery. Burial is in Holy Sepulchre Cemetery in Southfield.
