Sr. Marilyn Foster, OP

18-FosterSr. Marilyn Foster, OP, formerly Sr. Thomas Howard Foster, died Sept. 19 at Bixby Hospital in Adrian. She was 85 and in the 62nd year of her religious profession.

Sr. Foster was born in Peck to Howard and Marie (McNulty) Foster. She graduated from St. Stephen High School in Port Huron and received a bachelor’s in history from Siena Heights College (University), Adrian, and a master’s in history from the University of Detroit (Detroit-Mercy).

Sr. Foster spent 18 years ministering in elementary and secondary education in Detroit, Harper Woods, and Port Huron, as well as Shaker Heights, Ohio. In Michigan, she taught at Precious Blood, Detroit (1952-60), St. Peter, Harper Woods (1960-64); and Port Huron Catholic, Port Huron (1970-71). She coordinated religious education at St. Joseph Parish, Port Huron (1971-75), and for 19 years coordinated adult education for the St. Clair County Jail in Port Huron (1976-95). For 13 years, she was an office volunteer at the Blue Water Habitat in Port Huron (1995-2008). In 1991, Sr. Foster was a member of the first Dominican Peace Team to go to Iraq. She became a resident of the Dominican Life Center, Adrian, in 2008.

Sr. Foster is survived by two sisters, Grace Hill of Port Huron and Mary Cay Reckker of Troy; and two brothers, Jerome Foster of Royal Oak, and Richard Foster of Port Huron. She was preceded in death by Srs. Betty Foster and Dorothy Foster, also Adrian Dominican Sisters.

Mass of Christian Burial was Sept. 22 in St. Catherine Chapel in Adrian. Burial is in the Congregation cemetery.
