Sr. Marion Coppe, OP, formerly Sr. Rachel Marie Coppe, died Aug. 28 at the Dominican Life Center in Adrian. She was 84 and in her 65th year in the Adrian Dominican Congregation.Born in Chicago to Louis and Eugenie (Comein) Coppe, she earned her degrees from Siena Heights College (University) in Adrian and taught elementary, secondary and adult education in Michigan for 48 years.
Sr. Coppe taught at St. Gabriel, Detroit (1951); Holy Name, Detroit (1953-54); St. Agatha, Gagetown (1954-60); St. Joseph, Wyandotte (1960-63); St. Joseph High School, St. Joseph (1963-68); St. Stephen High School, Saginaw (1968-69); St. Mary, Paw Paw (1969-74); and Dominican High School, Detroit (1974-76). She was an adult educator for 19 years for the Port Huron Area School System (1976-95), and for five years she was an elementary teacher for the “Title 1 Government Education Program for Disadvantaged Children” at St. Brendan (1996-97), Martyrs of Uganda (1997-99) and Genesis Catholic Academy in Detroit (1999-2001).
A funeral Mass was offered in St. Catherine Chapel in Adrian on Sept. 2. Rite of Committal will be in the Congregation cemetery.
