Sr. Mary Anne Humbel, IHM, 85, died Jan. 16 in the IHM Health Care Center.
Born April 2, 1930, in Detroit, Mary Anne was one of three children born to John and Lucinda (Laux) Humbel. She attended St. Matthew Grade School and Dominican High School in Detroit. After graduation, she entered the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary in Monroe and received the name Sr. Lucinda. Sr. Humbel earned degrees from Marygrove College in Detroit, Loyola University and DePaul University in Chicago.
Her early teaching ministry focused on elementary school students in Michigan at St. Matthew, Flint; St. Gregory, Detroit; St. Philip, Battle Creek; and St. John, Benton Harbor. She later went on to minister in schools in Illinois for more than 35 years before retiring to the IHM Motherhouse in 2012.
Sr. Humbel is survived by her sister, Jane Dahlman, and brother, John.
Visitation was to be held at the IHM Motherhouse, 610 W. Elm Ave., Monroe on Jan. 22, beginning at 9 a.m., with a remembering and Mass of Christian Burial to follow at 10 a.m. Burial will follow in St. Mary Cemetery on the Motherhouse Campus.
