Sr. Mary Helen Mack, OP, formerly Sr. Mary Angus Mack, died Oct. 26 at the Dominican Life Center. She was 86 and in her 67th year in the Adrian Dominican Congregation.
Sr. Mack was born in Port Huron to Daniel and Edith (Allen) Mack. She earned her degree from Siena Heights College (University) in Adrian and was certified by the National Association of Catholic Chaplains.
Sr. Mack ministered for almost 22 years in education in Michigan and Florida, including at St. Joseph, Wyandotte (1950-54); Visitation, Detroit (1954-55); Sacred Heart, Hudson (1955-57); St. Joseph, Belding (1957-58); St. Paul on the Lake, Grosse Pointe Farms (1959-62); St. Jude, Detroit (1962-64); St. Joseph, Port Huron (1964-66); and St. Philomena, Detroit (1966-71). She served as pastoral minister and chaplain at University Hospital in Ann Arbor, Hutzel Hospital in Detroit and St. Joseph East Hospital in Mt. Clemens. For 22 years, she ministered as chaplain at St. Joseph West Hospital in Clinton Township.
Sr. Mack is preceded in death by aunts: Sisters Mary Sabina and Marie Estelle, cousins: Sisters Edith Marie, Rose Ella, Helena, and Ann Louise, all members of the Adrian Dominican Congregation, and is survived by nieces and nephews.
Funeral Mass was offered in St. Catherine Chapel in Adrian on Oct. 31. Rite of Committal was to be in the congregation cemetery.
