Sr. Mary Noelita (Rose) Suchora, CSSF, of Hamtramck, entered eternal life July 24 at St. Mary Mercy Hospital, Livonia. She was 87 and a religious sister for 69 years.
Born Jan. 28, 1927, and baptized and confirmed at Queen of Apostles Church, Hamtramck, she was the youngest of nine children born to Andrew and Frances (Karp) Suchora. Following graduation from St. Florian High School, Rose was accepted into the postulancy of the Felician Sisters in 1945 and invested with the Felician habit in August 1946. First profession of vows was in 1947 and final profession in 1953.
Sr. Suchora earned a bachelor’s degree at Madonna University in preparation for 50 years in the ministry of education in Michigan and Ohio. She taught at St. John Cantius, St. Stanislaus, St. Andrew, St. Hyacinth, St. Casimir and Our Lady Help of Christians in Detroit; St. Hyacinth and St. Stanislaus, Bay City; Holy Rosary, Saginaw; St. Stephen, New Boston; St. Thecla, Mt. Clemens; St. Damian, Garden City; St. Stanislaus and St. Anthony, Toledo, Ohio; St. Leonard, Warren; St. Anne, Monroe; St. John Vianney, Wyoming, and St. Stanislaus, Jackson. At St. Joseph Home, Jackson, she supervised one of the units before returning to teach the middle grades at St. Thecla, Mt. Clemens; St. Hilary, Redford; and Our Lady Queen of Apostles, Hamtramck.
In 1992, Sr. Suchora became a caregiver for her brother, Joseph. During this time she shared the teaching responsibility in the second grade class at Our Lady Help of Christians School, Detroit, and later joined Angela Day Care as a Child Care Assistant.
Mass of Resurrection was celebrated July 29 in the Presentation of the Blessed Virgin Mary Chapel of the Felician Sisters Convent, Livonia. Burial is in Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Detroit.
