Sr. Mary Roseen Maier, formerly known as Margaret Alton Maier, died Sept. 13 at the Dominican Life Center in Adrian. She was 93 and in the 77th year of her religious profession in the Adrian Dominican Congregation.
Sr. Mary Roseen was born in Chicago to Francis and Rosanna (Gill) Maier. Sister graduated from St. Joseph Academy in Adrian and received a Bachelor of Philosophy degree in English from Siena Heights College (University) in Adrian.
Sister spent 48 years ministering in elementary education in Detroit and Chelsea; Chicago; Tucumcari, N.M.; Scottsdale and Flagstaff, Ariz.; Las Vegas, Nev.; and San Francisco, Oakland, Los Angeles, Delano, and Monterey, Calif. She taught at St. Brigid, Detroit (1936-40); and St. Mary, Chelsea (1940-41). She became a resident of the Dominican Life Center in Adrian, Michigan in 2010.
Sr. Maier is survived by loving nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by two sisters, Sr. Madonna Maier and Sr. Rose Xavier Maier, also Adrian Dominican Sisters.
The funeral liturgy was in St. Catherine Chapel on Sept. 17. Burial will be in the Congregation cemetery. Memorial gifts may be made to Adrian Dominican Sisters, 1257 East Siena Heights Drive, Adrian, Michigan, 49221.
