Sr. Michele Gebhardt, OP

Sr. Michele Gebhardt, formerly known as Odile Mary Gebhardt, died Aug. 10 at the Dominican Life Center in Adrian. She was 84 and in the 66th year of her religious profession in the Adrian Dominican Congregation.

Sr. Gebhardt was born in Detroit to Charles Ignatius and Elizabeth (Ebbesmeier) Gebhardt. She graduated from Dominican High School in Detroit and received a Bachelor of Science degree in biology from Siena Heights College (University) in Adrian and a Master of Science degree in biology from University of Detroit (Detroit-Mercy). She was also a registered nurse in Michigan.

Sister spent 25 years ministering in education at St. Bernard, Alpena (1948-54); St. Elizabeth, Tecumseh (1954-59); Our Lady of Sorrows, Farmington (1959-63); St. Gabriel, Detroit (1963-65); Visitation-de Porres, Detroit (1965-68); Bishop Foley, Madison Heights (1968-70); and Rosary High School, Detroit (1970-73).

Sister was a senior public health nurse for the Detroit Public Health Department for 13 years. She became a resident of the Dominican Life Center in Adrian in 2010.

Sr. Gebhardt has no immediate survivors.

The funeral liturgy was offered in St. Catherine Chapel at the Dominican Life Center on Aug. 17. Burial is in the congregation cemetery. Memorial gifts may be made to Adrian Dominican Sisters, 1257 East Siena Heights Drive, Adrian, Michigan, 49221.
