Sr. Romona Nowak, OP, formerly Sr. Jane Lucian Nowak, died Nov. 8 at the Dominican Life Center in Adrian. She was 72 and in her 51st year in the Adrian Dominican Congregation.

Sr. Nowak was born in Chicago to Lucian and Jeanette (Wysocki) Nowak. She earned degrees from Siena Heights College (University) in Adrian and the University of Chicago. She also was certified as a chaplain by the National Association of Catholic Chaplains and as a retreat and spiritual director by Colombiere Spirituality Center.

Sister Romona ministered in Illinois and California, and as a chaplain for 13 years at Maria Health Care Center in Adrian (1990-96), at Oakwood Common, Dearborn (2009-12), and St. John Hospital and Medical Center, Detroit (2012-16).

Memorial Mass was celebrated Nov. 10 in St. Catherine Chapel in Adrian. Burial will be in the Congregation cemetery.
