Sr. Rose Petruzzo, OP

Sr. Rose Petruzzo, OP, formerly Sr. Christopher Petruzzo, died Sept. 9 at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital, Pontiac. She was 85 and had been professed for 60 years.

Sr. Petruzzo was born in Avellino, Italy, to Michael and Angelina (Perillo) Petruzzo. She graduated from Germantown High School in Philadelphia and received degrees from Rosemont College and Providence College in Rhode Island.

Sr. Petruzzo served for more than 40 years in the Detroit area, in religious education for all ages at St. Alexander Parish in Farmington and as chaplain in several hospitals in Flint, and Mercy Hospital in Detroit. She also served as chaplain at Abbey Nursing Home in Warren and most recently volunteered at Lourdes Nursing Home in Waterford. Sr. Petruzzo also worked in the Senior Companion Program in St. Clair Shores. Sr. Petruzzo entered the Dominican Sisters of St. Catherine de’Ricci in 1952, and this community merged with seven other congregations to form the Dominican Sisters of Peace. She moved to the motherhouse in Oxford in 2014.

A funeral was celebrated for Sr. Petruzzo on Sept. 12 at the motherhouse chapel. Burial will be in the congregation cemetery there. Sr. Petruzzo is survived by two sisters, Rita Moscola and Connie Petruzzo of Philadelphia.
