Sr. Rosemary Murphy, OP

Sr. Rosemary Murphy, OP, a Dominican Sister of Peace, died Sept. 16 at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital, Pontiac. She was 96.

Born in Waterford, N.Y., on May 2, 1918, Sr. Murphy entered the novitiate of the former Dominican Sisters of St. Catherine de’ Ricci in 1940 and made her profession of vows in 1942.

A Dominican for 72 years, Sr. Murphy ministered as a teacher in schools, correctional facilities and children’s homes, especially in Pennsylvania.

Sr. Rosemary is survived by nieces and nephews, and was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Marion Murphy, brothers Joseph, Bernard, Victor and Alfred Murphy.

A memorial Mass was Sept. 20 at the Dominican Sisters of Peace’s Oxford Motherhouse Chapel. Sr. Murphy has donated her body to science.
