Sr. Rosita Starner, CSJ

StarnerSr. Rosita Starner, CSJ, entered eternal life March 28 at the age of 94. A vigil service was held March 31, and burial April 1.

Rita Starner was born Jan. 15, 1921, in Detroit, the daughter of Bernard and Blanche (Gorny) Starner.  She was a member of St. Rita Parish in Detroit at the time of her entrance into the Congregation of the Sisters of St. Joseph of Nazareth on June 18, 1939. She pronounced first vows Jan. 9, 1942, and final vows Jan. 9, 1945.

Sr. Starner earned degrees from Nazareth College and the University of Detroit. She was a teacher and principal in many schools of the congregation including St. David, Detroit; Immaculate Heart of Mary, Lansing; St. Mary, Williamston; and St. Clement, Center Line. After 42 years in education, Sr. Starner served eight years in ministry at Marian-Oakland Senior Community in Farmington Hills. She later volunteered as a librarian for the blind and physically disabled at the Macomb County Library.
