Sr. Susanne Hofweber, OP, formerly Elizabeth Hofweber, died Aug. 27 at the Dominican Life Center in Adrian. She was 97 and in her 80th year in the Adrian Dominican Congregation.Born in Detroit to August and Emily (Campbell) Hofweber, she earned degrees from Siena Heights College (University) in Adrian, Santo Domingo University in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, and the Catholic University of America in Washington, D.C.
Sr. Hofweber spent 43 years ministering in elementary, secondary and adult education in Michigan, Ohio, Florida, Puerto Rico and the Dominican Republic. In Michigan, she taught at St. Mary, Rockwood (1941-42) and Guardian Angels, Clawson (1950-54), and was an educator coordinator for the Diocese of Saginaw from 1976-82. Sr. Hofweber was executive director of the National Conference Diocesan DRE-CCD for six years, and for two years was the national program director for St. Vincent Center of Apostolic Development, both in Washington, D.C. She also was an administrative assistant for the Nokomis Chapter Office in Dearborn Heights for three years.
A funeral Mass was offered in St. Catherine Chapel in Adrian on Aug. 31. Rite of Committal will be in the Congregation cemetery.
