Sr. Therese Tighe, OP

Sr. Therese Tighe, formerly known as Sister Francis Irene Tighe, died Jan. 30 at The Dominican Life Center in Adrian. She was 85 and in her 66th year of religious profession in the Adrian Dominican Congregation.

She was born in Detroit to Francis and Irene (Parry) Tighe. She graduated from St. Theresa High School in Detroit, and received a Bachelor of Philosophy degree in history from Siena Heights College (University), and a Master of Education degree from the University of Gainesville in Florida.

Sr. Tighe spent 38 years ministering in education in Michigan, Illinois and Florida. In the Archdiocese of Detroit, she was principal for 6 years at St. Peter School in Harper Woods and 3 years at St. Anthony School in Belleville. Before that, she had taught at three high schools in Detroit: Rosary (1958-61), St. Gabriel (1962-66) and Benedictine (1966-70). She also was a Chaplain for 14 years at Bon Secours Hospital in Grosse Pointe, and in 2002 volunteered at St. Joseph Hospital in Clinton Township. Sr. Tighe became a resident of the Dominican Life Center in Adrian, Michigan in 2006.

She is survived by loving nephews and nieces.

Her funeral Mass was Feb. 3 in the St. Catherine Chapel at the Dominican Life Center in Adrian. Memorials to Adrian Dominican Sisters, 1257 East Siena Heights Drive, Adrian, 49221.
