DETROIT — Dillon Stevenson, 18, is the winner of The Michigan Catholic’s first-ever Light of Christmas Contest. Stevenson’s holiday decorations were a cut about the rest — with lights and ornaments synched to the music of five classic Christmas tunes.

Second-Place winner: Mark and Denise Van Sile (Lake Shore, Grosse Pointe Farms) Second-Place winner: Mark and Denise Van Sile (Lake Shore, Grosse Pointe Farms)

Stevenson, a parishioner of Our Lady of Good Counsel in Plymouth and a student at Ann Arbor Fr. Gabriel Richard High School, started working on the project in July,

saying it takes eight hours of programming for every minute of song — that’s more than 120 hours of programming for the five selections.

Stevenson wins a free one-year subscription to The Michigan Catholic and a $25 Applebee’s gift card.  You can check out his ingenious holiday decoration at www.youtube.com/dillonslights or drive by the home on Crabtree Lane in Plymouth just south of 5 Mile Road.

In second place, Mark and Denise Van Sile of St. Clare of Montefalco Parish in Grosse Pointe Park also win a free subscription to The Michigan Catholic for their display, which was hand-decorated by Mr. Van Sile. Their home is on Lake Shore Drive in Grosse Pointe Farms.

Thanks to all who participated, and Merry Christmas.
