Fr. MunzDETROIT — The University of Detroit Jesuit High School and Academy announced Dec. 7 that Fr. Theodore Munz, SJ, would become the school’s 29th president. Fr. Munz will replace fellow Jesuit Fr. Karl Kiser, who has served as president for 14 years.
A native of the Cincinnati area, Fr. Munz was educated in a Jesuit school and earned degrees from the University of Detroit, University of Chicago and the Jesuit School of Theology in Berkely, Calif. He currently serves at the University of Detroit Mercy.
In a statement, Fr. Munz said he has a “special affinity” for the U of D Jesuit, where he first taught in 1976.
“I have a great fondness for the City of Detroit and metro area from the time of my early formation here as a Jesuit in the 1970s,” he said. “A Jesuit education is unique, and we must set a high bar for our students in their formation as young men who are religious, intellectually competent, loving, open to growth, and committed to justice. We must also prepare our students to be leaders in service, particularly to those most in need.”
Founded in 1877, U of D Jesuit is one of Detroit’s oldest high schools and currently educates more than 900 students from seventh grade through 12th grade.
